NSPB-India in collaboration with the Government of Haryana, District Administration and Mr. Nitin Yadav, IAS, Deputy Commissioner, Yamuna Nagar started an ambitious programme for Yamuna Nagar Cataract Backlog Free District. The programme was launched in May 2007 and all the blocks in the district of Yamuna Nagar were covered in a planned manner. Ophthalmologists and Para Medics from NSPB-India visited all the blocks in Yamunanagar after giving publicity at grassroot village levels. All the patients who came in the camps in every block were screened and identified and the patients fit for surgery were transported to the Base hospital at Ginni Modi Community Ophthalmic Research Centre, Modinagar in NSPB buses. They were operated using the latest techniques. All surgeries were done free of cost. Postoperative medicines and glasses were given free of cost. Patients along with their attendants stayed at GMCORC, Modinagar and were provided free lodging and food. After post-operative check up they were transported back in the NSPB buses to their respective villages. This programme has covered approximately a population of 8 lakhs. It can be proudly said that as on 30.4.2008 the entire districts of Yamuna Nagar have been declared cataract backlog free. The cataract programme in Yamuna Nagar is still continuing as an ongoing programme. The Haryana Governor, His Excellency, Shri A.R.
